Our vet clinic SEO services

Our veterinary SEO services start from how pet owners search: they type “vet” plus their neighborhood, a service or their pet’s species, then “emergency vet” when it can’t wait. As an SEO agency in Montreal, we adapt the method of our healthcare SEO agency to veterinary medicine, where the patient can’t speak and the owner does the searching.

01

Business Profile hours you actually keep

We start local SEO with your Google Business Profile, also shown on Google Maps, listing the hours your practice really keeps. In Quebec, for example, section 11 of the Code of ethics of veterinary surgeons requires a veterinarian to respect the hours of service they advertise. Google recommends confirming your holiday hours and offers “More hours” for services with different times, which we can use for an emergency window when your profile offers it.

02

Service pages by species, with structured data

We build a page for each service that matters to the practice, from wellness exams and vaccinations to dental cleanings and surgery, then state clearly which species you see; for a bilingual practice, each page exists in English and French. Each page names the veterinarian who provides the service and explains how the appointment works, without replacing the exam. We add schema.org VeterinaryCare structured data, the type meant for a veterinary practice.

03

Prevention content that doesn’t promote medications

We plan a calendar of seasonal blog posts, such as ticks in spring or road trips with a pet in summer. Rules on promoting medications differ by jurisdiction; in Quebec, section 37 of the code bars promoting the consumption of medications or advertising a prescription medication unless the advertisement is in the public interest and for the protection of the public. So these articles stay informational, with no product brand or call to buy. They also support our work on visibility in AI answers such as ChatGPT or Perplexity.

04

Veterinary advertising and your regulator

We write your website and Business Profile with your provincial or state regulator’s advertising rules in mind, and the veterinarian remains responsible for what is published. In Quebec, section 33 of the code bars advertising, “in any way whatsoever,” that is false, misleading, incomplete or liable to mislead, or that plays on emotions, which matters when the topic is a sick pet. Section 36 bars using an expression of support or gratitude concerning the veterinarian in their advertising.

In Quebec, section 41 also requires each advertisement to clearly indicate, with their name, the veterinarian responsible for it, and section 42 requires keeping a complete copy in its original form for 2 years after it was last published. We prepare the content, and your veterinarian reviews and signs it: compliance remains their responsibility before the regulator.

Everything about veterinary SEO

Veterinary SEO by type of practice

Each type of practice targets its own searches, depending on its hours and the animals it sees.

Neighborhood clinics for dogs and cats

For a neighborhood clinic, we work on “vet” searches followed by the neighborhood or a nearby city, then the first searches of new clients, such as a puppy’s first exam or vaccines. We link each routine service to its own page, so an owner comparing two nearby clinics finds the answer quickly.

Cat-only clinics and exotic pets

For a feline practice or a clinic that sees exotic pets, we target searches by species, such as “cat vet,” “rabbit vet” or “reptile vet.” The owner of a ferret or a bird first looks for a clinic that treats that animal: one page per species, with the services offered and the veterinarian who provides them, answers that question.

Animal hospitals and 24-hour emergency care

For an animal hospital or an emergency center, we build an emergency page that reads well on mobile and states the cases you see overnight and the entrance to use; its hours match your Business Profile exactly. We also target “animal hospital” and “emergency vet” searches followed by the city, with a page explaining when to come in right away, approved by your veterinarians.

Referral centers and veterinary specialists

For a referral center, we write for two audiences: the pet owner, who reads the specialty pages, and the referring veterinarian, who wants to know how to send you a case. That second audience gets its own page, with the referral form and how follow-up goes back to the primary care clinic.

Veterinary chains and corporate groups

For a chain or a group that brings several clinics together, we keep each practice’s local name on its Business Profile and its page, even when the website moves under the group’s domain. In Quebec, section 41 of the code makes all partners, shareholders, directors and officers solidarily (jointly) responsible for the advertising rules, unless the advertisement clearly indicates the name of the veterinarian responsible: so we suggest naming that veterinarian on every page.

How we run a veterinary SEO mandate

Split emergency and routine searches

We use keyword research to separate urgent searches (“emergency vet,” “dog ate chocolate”) from planned ones (“cat spay,” “puppy vaccines”) in your area, then look at which practices already hold the local pack. A technical audit of your website then starts with the most common SEO mistakes.

Rank services by what your schedule can absorb

We rank keywords by the services your schedule can take on and the ones that matter most to the practice. In that strategy, Google Ads management, included with no management fee, can cover emergency searches while the service pages build organic rankings.

Go live once your veterinarian signs off

We draft in Google Docs, your veterinarian reviews and signs, then our team publishes directly on your site, title tags included, in WordPress or Webflow. Keeping a copy of each advertisement, where your rules require it, remains the veterinarian’s responsibility.

Count emergency calls and appointments

We track calls during emergency hours and conversions such as appointment requests for each service, then the rankings for each service page, in a monthly report or a meeting, as you prefer. The mandate runs month to month with 30 days’ notice, and everything we build stays with the practice.

Veterinary SEO pricing

For a veterinary clinic or animal hospital, a mandate typically starts at $2,000 to $3,000 per month. The price depends on the scope of the work and the competition, not a fixed price grid; larger sites move to a custom mandate. Google Ads management is included with no management fee.

What is veterinary SEO?

Veterinary SEO, also called vet SEO or veterinarian SEO, is search engine optimization for an animal health practice: the work on its website and Business Profile for the searches pet owners run on Google and other search engines. It differs from medical SEO in two ways: the person searching is the owner, on behalf of their pet; and professional rules, such as Quebec’s code for veterinary surgeons, can restrict advertising that plays on emotions.

SEO for veterinarians: FAQ

That depends on your regulator. In Quebec, for example, section 39 of the code requires fixed prices, the nature and extent of the services included, whether expenses are included and whether additional services might be required, all understandable for someone with no particular knowledge of the veterinary field. The price must stay in effect for at least 90 days after it was last published. We prepare the page with those details and your veterinarian approves it.

Yes, as soon as pet owners look for you in an emergency. The page states which cases you see during your hours, then where you send clients when the clinic is closed, for example an emergency animal hospital in your area. The hours shown match your Google Business Profile exactly, holidays included, so a worried owner knows right away where to take their pet.

Only with a recognized specialist credential, and your provincial or state board decides which ones count. In Quebec, for example, we keep the word for veterinarians who hold a specialist certificate from the regulator in one of eighteen specialties recognized in Quebec, such as companion animal surgery. Without one, we describe training and procedures in verifiable terms, and the veterinarian approves the wording.

Check your regulator’s rules first. In Quebec, section 38 of the code asks veterinarians to avoid methods that impart a profit-seeking or mercantile character to the profession and to refrain from offering the public any rebate, discount or gratuity on the sale or prescription of medications. We write prevention content instead: when to consult and which signs to watch for.

With verifiable facts rather than comparisons. In Quebec, section 35 of the code bars advertising practices likely to denigrate another veterinarian or to suggest that your services are superior. We highlight what is specific to you: the named team, the species you see, your real hours and the services offered on site. A page per service and a complete Business Profile can then help Google connect the practice to those searches.

Often, yes, if cats are a large share of your appointments. A cat owner sometimes searches for a “cat vet” rather than just a “vet,” and also wants to know how the visit works for a stressed animal. The page describes what the clinic really offers, such as a cat-only waiting area or cat-only hours, without claiming any quality the practice can’t justify.

Much of it can carry over if the transition is planned. Before the name changes or the website moves under the group’s domain, we list the pages that receive traffic or backlinks, then map a 301 redirect to each new address. We update the existing Business Profile rather than creating a second one, then update the name, address and phone number (NAP) in the directories that list the former clinic.
